We are excited to announce that Pozyx has embarked on an innovative project titled "Tactical Environmental Mapping for Battlefield Casualty Care" (TaMaCare), commencing on January 1st, 2025. This initiative aims to revolutionize battlefield casualty care by developing a real-time digital twin of the frontline, enhancing response times and decision-making in critical situations.

In modern combat scenarios, medics often face challenges due to limited information, hindering their ability to locate and prioritize casualties while minimizing exposure to threats. TaMaCare addresses this by providing medics with a comprehensive view of the battlefield, including the precise locations of injured soldiers, their vital signs, and potential hazards in the vicinity.

Digital twin of the battlefield

As a key partner in this project, Pozyx will leverage its expertise in Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to establish a network of UWB anchors and tags. This network will facilitate real-time localization of casualties and simulate health monitoring systems, offering critical data to command posts for effective intervention planning.

The TaMaCare consortium comprises esteemed institutions:

  • Royal Military Academy (RMA): Serving as the project coordinator, RMA brings expertise in 3D mapping technologies.
  • Ghent University: Contributing through its Image Processing and Interpretation research group (IPI), focusing on image processing, computer vision, and positioning systems.
  • Pozyx: Providing cutting-edge UWB localization solutions to enhance real-time tracking capabilities.

This collaboration is further enriched by the involvement of experienced military and civilian first responders, ensuring the project's alignment with real-world operational needs.

The TaMaCare project is funded under the Defense-Related Research Action (DEFRA) program, with a total budget of €942,000, and is scheduled to run until December 31st, 2027.

At Pozyx, we are committed to advancing technologies that save lives and improve operational efficiency. We look forward to the impactful outcomes of the TaMaCare project and will continue to provide updates on its progress.
